Beyond this segment, Sodexo also offers On-Site Service Solutions (food services, maintenance, asset management, conciergerie, etc.) and Motivation Solutions (entertainment, gift, and restaurant vouchers and cards) to companies, universities, schools, hospitals, prisons and remote sites, to name a few. Present in 80 countries and 30,600 sites around the world, with 380,000 employees, 97 percent of whom are in direct contact with our clients, Sodexo knows it can have a real impact on its environment, be it economic, social or ecological. Fully aware of this responsibility, the Group Sodexo, a strategic partner to its clients, is striving to include its sustainable development expertise into its service solutions offer, thus contributing to its clients’ awareness and helping them to enhance their productivity through new sustainable practices. An enterprise-wide roadmap for sustainability, the Better Tomorrow Plan, has just been launched.
How can our sustainable development expertise become a differentiating factor? How is it possible to have a real societal and environmental impact, while at the same time addressing our clients’ needs? How is this approach creating value for our clients? Adrienne Axler will answer during the presentation:“Making clients more competitive and more sustainable, we can make a difference” - Is it a discussion between short-term priorities and long-term strategy? - Is it profitability versus growth? Cost-savings versus strategy? - What are the best practices that support a good combination of both concepts?
Presentation by Marc Bosmans (Project Engineer at RDC-Environment)
The whole industry is today faced with a pressure to achieve more sustainability. This pressure comes from clients, public authorities, employees and other stakeholders. For most companies the way to more sustainability looks difficult because of the investments that seems necessary, the hesitation from the employees to change their habits, the lack of information on how to start this journey. If a guide can just show you the way,it will surely be an interesting experience. The main questions that will be answered are:
What are the pressures for my organisation? How do I start such a journey and which are the risks I take? What are the practical guidelines?

Moderated by Susan J. Spibey (EFAPCO Adviser on Professional Development) At the EFAPCO 2008 Congress in Warsaw, discussion focussed on the importance of standards to support ‘ethical competence’ and continuing professional development in relation to delivering the ‘right’ balance of services providing material benefit vs professional status.
In parallel, the launch took place in 2007 of BS8901 Standard on Sustainable Event Management. It was further revised in 2009. The UNEP Global Reporting Initiative on Sustainable Events was launched in 2009 and again in parallel, meetings held in Krakow and Lisbon took forward discussion on the need for standards and professional recognition in the meetings and events sector.
This session will update participants on developments around standards and professional recognition in the meetings and events sector, the future for these initiatives and provide an opportunity to debate and contribute.

It investigates the ways in which conferences and incentive programmes can be designed in such a way that they appeal to this youngest, but fastestgrowing, segment of employees. Approaches include effective use of technology, involvement at the design stage, consideration of CSR and sustainability and effective use of speakers. The recommendations will be of interest to all intermediaries and suppliers in the conference and incentive travel industry, including convention bureaux and other destination marketing organisations, destination management companies, professional conference organisers and incentive travel houses, venues and speakers.
